10 tips to follow when switching web hosts

If you are no longer satisfied with your current web hosts service and have decided to move to a new one, here are 10 helpful tips that would definitely prove practical to you during the process. Follow our tips and you will have a smooth transition with no problems along the way.
1. Probably one of the first things you should have to do when deciding to move your website from one host to another is to make sure that the new one offers you the storage space you need for all of your existing website storage necessities. For example, if your site is, let’s say 25MB you have to make sure that the new host provides you with that much of a space as a minimum. Of course, it is preferable to have a little more space than needed just in case you decide to add or modify something over night. If you do not know for sure the space offered by your host you can simply ask or you can find this information on its control panel.
2. Another important thing you need to know is how your total storage amount is calculated. Is it made up of just your web page or are your emails and log files included?
3. You must also take into account what operating system is used by your host.  Though in most cases it does not really matter, there are still instances when it can mean a functional website from an error 500 page. Make sure the programming languages are compatible in order to avoid later problems.
4. If your site uses FrontPage extensions, enquire if it is supported by your new host. Also you must take into account the version of Frontpage. It is well known that a newer version can read an older one but if you come with a more up to date version than that of your host, they may not be compatible.
5. Another important fact that must be taken into account is the Bandwidth that your new host offers you.
6. Also enquire about the number of email accounts, forwarders and auto responders provided by your new host. Is it the same as the one you use now?
7. In case you use a Shopping cart provided by your existing host, make sure that the new host provides one too, or if you use your own can it be moved. Or does the new host provide a suitable replacement for it?
8. Are the scripts you use supported by you new host? It is useful to know what kind of changes you need to make in order to have a fully functional site.
9. Do not forget to set up you e-mail accounts on your new host’s server before adding your domain name and transfer it to the new server.
10. Make sure you know how to upload all of your files just in case your new host won’t do that for you.
